This experience is for families, friends, couples or just yourself if you need a little silence & alpaca therapy.
Alpaca walking is great for those of you wishing to try an activity of a different nature, that takes you away from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Our alpacas appeal to everyone: the young, the old, every culture and every religion.
You will learn all about the alpacas, where they came from, and their daily routines. We will endeavour to make your walk with our alpacas a veritable “safari” and hopefully you will get to spot some of our other resident animals.

40-45 minutes
10 minute health and safety talk, followed by 30 minute walk.
$60 for 1 person with 1 alpaca
Max 3 Alpacas available a day.
$90 for 2 people with 1 alpaca

Max 1 Child per Adult Allowed
10yr and under free. Must be accompanied by adult.
Children must be 11yr + and feel competent to walk an alpaca on their own. Children 10 and under are free but must be accompanied by a paying adult. No more than 1 child per adult. Children under 5 must be able to walk the distance with supervision. Limit of 2 people per animal. Book online or at the gift shop.

Book A Private Alpaca Walk
Can't make our regular 11:15am time? Book a private Alpaca Walk for you and your family.
Prices start at $150 for a friend package (1 alpaca, 2 people).
Max 6 People per Group. (3 alpacas available. Max 2 people per alpaca.)
If your child (10yr+) is calm and mature they will be able to walk one of our gentle males. Children under 10 may walk an alpaca with their parent/guardian.
This will be at guides discretion.

Upon Arrival:
You will be signed in at our Grotto shop, where you and your partner will receive a ticket. You will also be asked to sign a waiver. You may wish to purchase a small bag of alpaca food at the gift shop to feed the alapacs along the way. Alpacas love their food!
At the start of your experience, your guide will collect you from the yard for a quick health and safety briefing with some alpaca facts before demonstrating how to lead your alpaca. Once you have partnered up with your alpaca chum your trekking experience will begin.
Don’t worry, there will be plenty of allocated time for pictures and alpaca selfies.
Alpacas are a species of domesticated camelids from South America. They look exotic, almost absurd, with their long necks, very long eyelashes and funny underbite. They will make a clicking and humming sound to communicate and they are very fashionable in their beautiful thick fur.
Their personality is one of being very curious and calm. They are known as dolphins of the pasture. They bring balance and calm to us through the connection you create with them on your walk.
At the end of your walk you will have the opportunity to visit the farm store and see all the amazing items that can be made from the alpaca fiber and can purchase a souvenir or product if you desire

What To Expect:
The experience will be 40-45 minutes which Includes a 10 minute health and safety talk.
There will be guidance and support from our experienced alpaca guide.
We have planned our walks so they suit a wide variety of visitors. Maximum 2 people per Alpaca. 1 child (10yr + under) may walk with an adult for free).
What To Bring:
- Suitable clothing and footwear (sunscreen and hats for sunny days) raincoat and rainboots for wet days) Small change is always handy if you wish to purchase alpaca feed. You can purchase a small bag of feed from the gift shop for $2.00.
- Adult companion if required.
- The minimum number of walking alpacas on any day must be two as they are herd animals. If you are booking a single walk and no others book for the same time slot we may contact you to rearrange the date.
Cancellations, Refunds, and Weather Conditions:
Refunds for the walk are available until 7 days before the experience. We would be delighted to give you a credit towards some other activity at Grotto Gardens after that time if you can not make it.
Refunds and changes are subject to a $10 administration charge.
Weather!! In case of heavy snow/rain/lighting/thunder- for the safety of our guests and alpacas, we offer a raincheck for another date.
